India's Huge Blackout Leaves Millions Without Power.

A massive power cut in India left more than 300 million people about a quarter of the population  without electricity on Monday. The cause of the collapse of the northern Indian power grid is still being investigated, but resulted in blackouts across at least eight Indian states. With no lights or hot water at home, millions of Indians then had to face a long struggle to get to work because trains were stopped and roads were jammed by lack of power for stop lights.

India train fire kills 47 in Andhra Pradesh.


Atleast 47 people have been killed in a fire on a passenger train travelling in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh officials say. One coach of the Tamil Nadu Express from Delhi to Chennai caught fire as it was passing through Nellore station early on Monday.

The cause of the blaze is still unclear, but authorities suspect an electrical short circuit.Accidents are common on India's immense state-owned rail network. 

In May, 24 people were killed when a passenger train crashed into a goods train, also in Andhra Pradesh state.

Most of the passengers were asleep when the fire broke out at 04:20 local time (22:50 GMT), said B Sridhar, head of Nellore's district administration.

Some of them managed to jump off the moving train before it came to a halt, but 28 passengers in the coach were injured and taken to local hospitals.The town of Nellore is about 500km (310 miles) south of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh's district capital.


Britney Spears not sure if she wants a big, fat wedding.

Britney Spears, who has been married twice before, is set to tie the knot with her former manager Jason Trawick and while he is keen to get married this Christmas, Britney is delaying plans as she is confused about whether she wants her nuptials to be huge or intimate.

There is still no date or really even any plans in place yet. Jason really hopes to get married around Christmas, and he wants to have a huge bash. Britney, on the other hand, is completely holding back from making any plans. She just isn't ready to commit to concrete plans, because she's not sure what the right thing to do is. She's confused. This is her third wedding, so she doesn't know whether she should go really big and make a huge statement or just do it super toned down.

Britney was previously married to childhood sweetheart Jason Alexander, although their marriage was annulled after just 55 hours in January 2004.She then wed dancer Kevin Federline in September 2004, and had two sons with him, Sean Preston, six, and five-year-old Jayden James.She got engaged to Jason last December.

15 million people taking life saving AIDS drug


W.H.O. says the global target of 15 million people taking life saving AIDS drugs by 2015 is just a first step.

With 8 million people in poor countries taking them now, WHO's Dr. told the International AIDS conference the world should meet the higher goal.

But the number needing drugs rises to 23 million with the goal beyond that People who aren't yet as sick but need treatment to lower their chances of spreading the virus. That includes high risk populations, people in relationships with healthy partners, and pregnant women who would need to be kept on medication after their babies are born.

Srinagar protests against killing of Muslims in Assam.

 Dozens of people on Thursday gathered here to denounce the ethnic riots in Assam and the killings of Muslims in Myanmar.

The protesters demanded the dismissal of the Assam government and imposition of President's rule in the state to end the bloodshed that has left about 40 people dead in Bodo-Muslim clashes.

The demonstration was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party's youth wing. The protesters also shouted slogans against the US and Israel, and appealed to President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to mount pressure on the Myanmar regime to end killings of Muslims. The protesters dispersed peacefully.

Strong 6.7 Magnitude Earthquake Hits off Mauritius.

Seismologists say a strong 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck north of the Indian Ocean islands of Mauritius.
The U.S. Geological Service said the earthquake early Thursday was centered about 250 miles north of the small Rodrigues island at a depth of about 6 miles.
There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries. The Mauritian weather department said no tsunami warning was issued.
Mauritius' resort islands with their popular beaches lie about 1,500 miles off southeast Africa's coast.

Former Minister Govinda Raj Joshi is Sent to jails


The special court on Wednesday   sent to former minister Joshi  to  one and a half  years in in jails on corruption charges.
The judge Gauri  Bahadur Karki, Om prakash Mishra  and kedar Prasad Chalise also slapped a fine of Rs.21.6 million on the Nepali Congress leader and ordered confiscation of property worth the same amount .Joshi was accused of amassing wealth disproportionate to his income while in public office.

Govinda raj Joshi became minister for seven  times  in various governments and  different portfolios, including Home, local Development, water Resources, and Education , in the 1990s.

Nepali worker Om Prasad Sherchan commits suicide in Korea.

Nepali worker employed at a company in Chanan of South Korea committed suicide on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Om Prasad Sherchan, 23 of Syaulibang-5, Pyuthan. He had come to Korea some one and half years ago through EPS. He committed suiscide by hanging himself in the office toilet.

According to Lachhu Sharma, colleague of Sherchan, he had taken permission from the office for sick leave yesterday morning but later he was found handing in the toilet at around 11.35 am.

The reason behind Sherchan's suicide is yet to be established.
 Meanwhile police have submitted preliminary investigation report to the Nepal Embassy in South Korea.
 

Film Director Gyanendra Deuja tries to kill self after loosing property in gambling.

Film director Gyanendra Deuja made a failed suicide attempt Monday at a resort near Gokarna, Kathmandu.

Deuja, who was lying unconscious after poisoning himself  was rescued by the police and admitted to Nepal Medical College, Attarkhel. He is undergoing treatment and is in a very critical condition.

Deuja, who is also the Assist Director of Nepal Rastra Bank at Thapathali, is known to have tried to commit suicide after losing most of his property in gambling including his home at Kapan. He had been frequenting the casinos for months.Deuja-directed 'Muna Madan' is currently running in the cinemas in Kathmandu.

Less intake of salty foods can cut cancer risk.

Cutting down on salty foods such as bread and breakfast cereals may reduce the risk of developing stomach cancer a study has found.

Eating too much  salt  is not all about sprinkling it over fish and chips or Sunday lunch, the vast majority is already inside food.

World Cancer Research Fund, a UK charity that gives advice on how cancer can be prevented through diet, physical activity and weight that the people should take less salt and the content of food should be labelled more clearly.Too much salt is bad for blood pressure can lead to heat disease and stroke but it can also cause cancer.The recommended daily limit is 6 g about a level teaspoonful.

Push back against Holocaust deniers.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called on the international community to "act against anti-Semitism" at a keynote address at a symposium on ending genocide, held at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington on Tuesday.
Clinton reaffirmed her support for Israel and the Jewish people at the Holocaust Museum, stating: "When heads of states and religious leaders deny the Holocaust, we must not let their lies go unanswered we must respond when criticism of Israeli government policy crosses over to anti-Semitism.
In spite of calling for the US to act before the match is struck in an apparent reference to Syria and Iran, she touted a strategy of prevention that is not code for military action, rather, a focus on diplomacy, humanitarian assistance, law enforcement and sanctions to achieve results.
The US secretary of state also warned that when a fire is at full blaze, our actions will be less effective.

Brazil's goalkeeper out of London Games

Brazil's goalkeeper Rafael Cabral has been withdrawn from their Olympic Games squad with an injury to his right elbow, the Brazilian Football Confederation reported on Tuesday.

A scan showed the Santos keeper's elbow was badly bruised during practice on Monday and he would not recover in time to take part in the men's soccer tournament at the London Games, team doctor Jose Luis Runco said.

Fiorentina's goalkeeper Neto will replace Cabral in the first team, while 19-year-old Gabrial, from AC Milan, will be the substitute.
 Mugu district have been suffering from diarrhoea. According to Mugu District Public Health Officer, Brish Bahadur Shahi, some 50 persons including 30 children have badly suffered from diarrhoea and dysentery.

The office said that health workers have been deployed at the affected areas and to provide treatment services immediately.
